Co-Teaching in Goodnotes Education

Co-teaching lets multiple teachers share the same Class Folder, so colleagues can collaborate on lessons, share materials with the same group of students, and teach together in real time. All teachers in a Class Folder have equal access to manage it.

What Co-Teachers Can Do

Once added to a Class Folder, a co-teacher can do everything the original teacher can, including:

  • View, annotate, and manage documents in the folder
  • Add and remove students
  • Create and organise subfolders
  • Import and export documents
  • Remove other co-teachers from the folder

Please note: The teacher who originally created the Class Folder cannot be removed from it.

Adding a Co-Teacher to Your Class Folder

To invite a colleague to co-teach with you, share your Class Folder invite with them. When a teacher-role user joins using the invite, they are added as a co-teacher rather than as a student.

  1. Open the Class Folder you want to share.
  2. Select the Teacher tab.
  3. Select Add Teacher.
  4. Choose QR Code to display a scannable code, or Copy Link to share a join link directly.
  5. Your colleague opens the link or scans the QR code on their device and signs in to their Goodnotes account.
  6. They are added to the Class Folder as a co-teacher.

Please note: Your colleague must have a Teacher, Admin, or Owner role in your school's Goodnotes Education organisation for the invite to add them as a co-teacher. If they have a Student role, they will be added as a student instead.

Viewing All Teachers in a Class Folder

Each Class Folder has a Teachers section within the People tab, showing everyone currently teaching in the folder.

  1. Open the Class Folder.
  2. Select the Teacher tab.
  3. Select Teachers to see all teachers in the folder.

Teaching Together in Real Time

When multiple teachers are in an active lesson, the Collaborators view shows teachers and students in separate sections, so you can see who else is present at a glance.

Follow Me

Follow Me lets you guide all participants to follow your view of the document. Only one teacher can use Follow Me at a time. If a colleague is already using it, you cannot start a new session until theirs ends.

Whiteboard Layers

Each teacher has their own individual Whiteboard layer in a lesson. Your whiteboard annotations are not shared with or visible on your co-teachers' whiteboards.

Documents Owned by Former Teachers

If a teacher is removed from a Class Folder, their documents remain in the folder but are flagged with a warning badge. This lets you know that the document owner is no longer an active teacher in the class.

Securing a Flagged Document

You can take ownership of a flagged document to ensure you have full control over it going forward.

  1. In your Class Folder, select the document showing a warning badge.
  2. Tap Secure This Document when prompted.
  3. A full copy of the document is created under your ownership. All student work and annotations are preserved. The original document remains in the folder alongside the new copy.

Please note: Assignments are not duplicated when you secure a document.

Removing a Co-Teacher

Any teacher in a Class Folder can remove a co-teacher from it.

  1. Open the Class Folder.
  2. Select the Teachers tab.
  3. Select the teacher you want to remove.
  4. Select Remove from Class Folder and confirm.

Please note: The teacher who originally created the Class Folder cannot be removed.
