Please note: While deploying your license key does not require reinstalling the app, we strongly encourage all users to back up their data before creating or modifying the Managed App Configuration. This can be achieved through iCloud Sync, Auto Backup, or a Manual Backup.
After receiving your License Key from our Goodnotes Free licensing team, follow these instructions to install the key using the .plist file found in our MDM Installation Article.
If you prefer to consult Jamf's documentation directly, please see Managed App Configuration in Jamf School.
Step-by-Step Installation via Jamf School:
- Show the advanced options inside the Goodnotes app details. (This option can be disabled by the IT Admin).
- Enable "Apply Managed Configuration" (*)
- Copy the managed configuration below and change the License Key:
- Only include the content within
<plist>tags, not the XML content at the top of our full configuration. See below for an example and ensure you change the red key information to your own License Key:
- Only include the content within
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>LicenseKey</key>
<string>AAAAAA-BBBBBB-CCCCCC-DDDDDD-123456-V3</string>
</dict>
</plist>- Add a descriptive title to this Configuration, such as 'Goodnotes Free Version Unlock'. (If you need to add multiple configurations, sometimes a page refresh is needed to get the "Add New" button to appear. Do not use the green "Add New" button as a save action—this button adds more configuration slots rather than saving the current config).
- Press the save button.
- (Optional) Mark this configuration as default.
-
Enable this configuration for the whole app scope (main gearwheel), or individually for device groups (device group gearwheel):
- Check the device activity log to verify the configuration gets assigned.
(*) We recommend disabling "Allow teachers to assign the app"; otherwise the license key might not be pushed to the devices.
Troubleshooting Note: If the app is assigned to the main location's VPP token and the app details are changed from a sub-location, an error may occur. In this case, the configuration can only be assigned by the main location admin. (Failed to save the settings: AxiosError: Request failed with status code 500).
If you need help after reading these instructions, contact our Goodnotes Free Licensing team for support, or reach out to Jamf for dedicated assistance with their software.
