Installing Goodnotes Education without License Key in Meraki MDM

This guide will walk you through deploying Goodnotes Education without Admin Console using your License Key in Cisco Meraki Systems Manager, allowing your school to provide Goodnotes to all users.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • Active Cisco Meraki Systems Manager account with administrative access
  • A valid Goodnotes Education License Key
  • Devices enrolled in Meraki Systems Manager
  • The Goodnotes app available in your app catalog

Deployment Steps

Step 1: Access Managed App Configurations

  1. Log in to your Meraki Dashboard
  2. Navigate to Systems Manager
  3. Select Configure from the menu
  4. Click on Managed App Configs

Step 2: Add Goodnotes Configuration

  1. Click Add to create a new configuration
  2. Select Goodnotes 6 from the available apps

Step 3: Configure the License Key

Add the following configuration parameter:

  • Key: LicenseKey
  • Value Type: String
  • Value: [AAAAAA-BBBBBB-CCCCCC-DDDDDD-123456-V3- replace with your organization's license key]

Important: Make sure to replace the placeholder text with your actual Goodnotes License Key. Your license key should be a string of characters provided by Goodnotes.

Step 4: Save and Deploy

  1. Review your configuration settings
  2. Click Save to apply the configuration
  3. Assign the configuration to your target devices or device groups

Verification

After deployment, verify that the license is working correctly:

  1. Open Goodnotes on a test device
  2. Check that the app launches without prompting for a subscription
  3. Verify that all Goodnotes Free features are accessible

Troubleshooting

If users are still being prompted to subscribe after deployment:

  • Verify the license key - Ensure the key was entered correctly without extra spaces or characters
  • Check device enrollment - Confirm devices are properly enrolled in Meraki Systems Manager
  • Review configuration assignment - Make sure the managed app configuration is assigned to the correct devices or groups
  • Allow time for sync - Configuration changes may take a few minutes to propagate to devices
