In order to use Compare to Model Answer to compare a Student's answer to a Model Answer, Goodnotes Education must use an AI Large Language Model (LLM) to determine the similarity in an answer. LLMs are machine learning models which can comprehend text written by humans by learning from very large datasets.
Goodnotes Education is using OpenAI's GPT-4o model to analyze and group Student answers. In order to use this feature, Students' answers are anonymously sent to OpenAI's servers. Note that the feature is optional and Goodnotes Education will only send the Student responses to OpenAI's servers when the user is using Compare to Model Answer and not while using any of the other features of the app.
As our Compare to Model Answer feature uses Generative AI to analyze and group Student answers, it may occasionally provide incorrect results. Certain Student answers may not be properly recognized and analyzed by the model. Teachers should also verify the results of Compare to Model Answer and make necessary adjustments.
