This article explains how to set up and log in to Goodnotes Education using ClassLink.
For IT Admins
Step 1: Add Goodnotes to ClassLink LaunchPad
Next, add Goodnotes to your ClassLink LaunchPad so teachers and students can access Goodnotes through ClassLink.
- Log into your ClassLink LaunchPad with your admin credentials
- Open the ClassLink Management Console
- Go to Applications > Add & Assign Apps, search for Goodnotes and click Add
- Click Assign and select the users or groups who should have access
Once they’re assigned and setup and sync are complete, teachers and students will be able to access Goodnotes via the icon in the ClassLink LaunchPad.
Step 2: Connect Goodnotes to ClassLink Roster Server
After adding Goodnotes to the ClassLink LaunchPad, connect it to your ClassLink Roster Server. This allows us to receive your school’s roster data from ClassLink.
- Open the Roster Server app from the ClassLink LaunchPad
- Click Apps in the header, then + Add
- Search for Goodnotes (if it’s not visible, toggle Show Development Apps)
- Select the required permissions and click Add
- Toggle the app status to Enabled
Goodnotes uses Edlink to connect with ClassLink for roster syncing. Once Goodnotes has been added to ClassLink Roster Server and the app is enabled, your school’s roster will sync automatically with Goodnotes.
Step 3: Wait for the initial sync to complete
After Goodnotes is enabled in ClassLink Roster Server, Edlink syncs periodically with ClassLink to pull in your school’s roster data - the initial sync can take up to 24 hours to complete.
To confirm that the sync has completed:
- Open the Roster Server app from your ClassLink LaunchPad
- Find Goodnotes
- Check Preview Permissions
- Confirm that your users, classes, and courses are listed
If your users, classes, and courses are visible in Preview Permissions, the roster sync has completed successfully!
Step 4: Activate your Goodnotes Admin Console
Before teachers and students can access Goodnotes through ClassLink, you’ll need to activate your Goodnotes Admin Console.
- Go to https://edu-admin.goodnotes.com/login
- Choose Single sign-on (SSO) and put in your institution email
- Enter the code provided to you by email
Step 5: Check your Admin Console settings
Once you’ve logged in for the first time, check your Admin Console settings before connecting Goodnotes to ClassLink. In the Goodnotes Admin Console:
- Go to Settings > Institution Name.
- Rename the placeholder school name (School_XXX) to your actual school name
- Go to Feature Control and make sure Join school when joining class is enabled
Step 7: Disable invitation codes and links
Once ClassLink is connected, users should join Goodnotes through ClassLink only.
In the Goodnotes Admin Console, disable:
- Invitation Codes
- Invitation Links
This helps prevent users from joining Goodnotes through the wrong route.
For teachers and students
Logging in to Goodnotes through ClassLink
Once your school’s setup is complete, you can log in to Goodnotes directly from ClassLink.
- Open your ClassLink LaunchPad
- Select the Goodnotes icon
- Goodnotes will open and log you in using your ClassLink credentials
If this is your first time logging in, your Goodnotes account will be created automatically.
