Users cannot see iCloud Sync in Settings for Goodnotes

If your Students or Teachers are not seeing iCloud sync as an option in the Goodnotes menu under Settings > Cloud and Backup, then it may be because this feature needs to be enabled or a restriction is in place.

For Goodnotes Education

In some cases, iCloud may be disabled when upgrading to Goodnotes Education. If you were previously using Goodnotes in your school, you may notice that this option has disappeared after restarting the app following the upgrade.

This issue can be resolved using the following two steps:

  1. If using MDM, please check that iCloud is not restricted on the devices. For example, using Jamf, make sure that you allow for iCloud Documents & Data and Managed Apps can use iCloud Sync.
  2. Head to the Goodnotes Admin Console and click on Feature Controls in the sidebar. Enable iCloud in the list of features.

For Goodnotes Free

Since Goodnotes Free is deployed via MDM without user accounts, you only need to:

  1. Check that iCloud is not restricted on the devices through your MDM. For example, using Jamf, make sure that you allow for iCloud Documents & Data and Managed Apps can use iCloud Sync.
  2. Please see the configurable features article for more info on how to allow/deny certain features with Appconfig.

You should now be able to use iCloud successfully. If you are still having issues, please contact Support and let them know where you are encountering problems.
